Overview
This summer intensive combines technique and creativity in three standalone but connected modules:
- Pattern Making
- Volume and Necklines
- Full Construction of a Flamenco Dress
It’s designed for those who want a solid foundation in flamenco fashion design and to develop a personal project in a supportive environment.
Who is it for?
If you’re interested in flamenco fashion with a contemporary perspective and want to learn to create from scratch, this course is for you.
No pattern making experience needed, but you should know how to use a sewing machine.
Methodology: The Rakto System
Training is hands-on from day one, combining technical teaching with an individual creative approach.
We use the Rakto System, developed by the fashion designer Rosalía Zahíno, which allows precise volume adjustments without sacrificing body movement.
Each student receives continuous support and guidance throughout the course.

Module 3: Dress Construction
- Dates: 5–8 August
- Schedule: 9:30 am – 2:30 pm (20 hours)
Contents:
- Cutting fabric according to design
- Assembly and construction of the dress
- Sewing techniques, necklines and finishing touches
- One-to-one technical support to complete the dress
- Includes a guided visit to a fabric shop and personalised advice
Module 1: Rakto Pattern Making
- Dates: 15–18 July
- Schedule: 9:30 am – 2:30 pm (20 hours)
Contents:
- Basic body and sleeve pattern making (industrial and personalised)
- Adjustments and adaptations with the Rakto system
- Development of a personalised toile in test fabric
- Practical application of Rakto for comfort and precision
Module 2: Volume & Pattern Transformations
- Dates: 29 July – 1 August
- Schedule: 9:30 am – 2:30 pm (20 hours)
Contents:
- Types of flounces (circular and straight grain)
- Skirt and petticoat pattern making
- Design and correction of necklines
- Volume building techniques
- Development of a personalised final design
Optional Extra Activity (Free):
- Date: 2 August
- Activity: Visit to the Carmen Thyssen Museum (traditional costume inspiration)
- Open to students from any module.

About the Instructor
Rosalía Zahíno
Fashion designer and educator specialised in flamenco fashion, with over 15 years of experience.
She spent her childhood in Germany and has lived in the UK, Luxembourg and Spain, where she is currently based.
Rosalía combines technical skill and creative sensitivity, focusing on practical, realistic and modern training.
She is the creator of the Rakto System, which allows greater freedom of movement in fitted garments, and she applies this method in her courses through clear and supportive guidance.
She has lived in Germany, the UK, Luxembourg and Spain, where she is currently based.
